WELCOME TO ST. CECILIA CATHOLIC SCHOOL
April 24, 2020
St. Cecilia Community,
After a review of our school calendar with the Department of Catholic Schools, our last day of school instruction will be Tuesday, May 19th. This is possible due to the additional instructional time added to our traditional school days and the instructional time allowed for the Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) days - enabling us to meet the 1,062 instructional hours as guided by the Kentucky Department of Education.
Details regarding instruction for the final days, 8th Grade Promotion, and end of year activities will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
Drop off/ Pick up days of Chromebooks, Textbooks, materials left at school, LifeTouch Pictures, and more will take place on Wednesday, May 20th and Thursday, May 21st. Details regarding this process will also be announced in the near future.
Thank you again for your support and understanding during this time. Enjoy your weekends!
REMINDER INFORMATION FROM APRIL 19th
Moving forward, "Specials" such as Art, Music, PE, Spanish, Library, and Computer should be treated as Enrichment Classes. This means that they are optional. We strongly encourage students to continue to check these class postings and participate in the activities for a more well rounded and enjoyable education. These classes are also a great outlet for the different emotions that students are experiencing; however, if a student is struggling with the workload of their general class, these can be the first classes to be pushed aside. Students are not required to complete the assignments in these classes moving forward. Special teachers will continue to make weekly posts to help enrich our students' experiences and we hope they will be taken advantage of.
With guidance and best practices of other schools in our Diocese and the state, our Middle School teachers will be altering their postings according to content areas with the following designated days:
Mon - Religion, LA, Math, Science
Tues - Religion, LA, Math, Social Studies
Wed - Religion, LA, Science, Social Studies
Thurs - Religion, Math, Science, Social Studies
Fri - Communication Day & Flexible work day
This means teachers of these content areas will post new work or reminders of longer assignments on these designated days at a minimum. Fridays will be a flexible day in which teachers will not post new work, but will use it as a day to reach out to students on a more individual basis and this day is to allow students to complete any work leftover throughout the week. Teachers may post on their non-designated days regarding communication and guidance, but no new work will be posted on their "off" days. This rotation allows our teachers to give more well rounded assignments without overburdening the students. The majority of our K-5 teachers have already taken this approach in not posting every content area everyday.
The School Building is still restricted to essential staff until further notice. The school phone line will not be answered. Please contact teachers first via email with specific questions regarding your child. You may contact me with any general questions via email and Ms. Kohl via email with any technology questions. If a student needs something from the school building, please communicate this request to the teacher and we will have it arranged for pickup.
Confirmation & First Communion
At this time the sacraments of Confirmation for our 8th Graders and First Communion for our 2nd Graders are postponed until a date to be named later. These sacraments will take place eventually and this will be communicated first by way of our Church Offices with guidance of the Bishop.
8th Grade Commencement
Unfortunately, we have been directed to make plans to create an alternate virtual 8th Grade Commencement. We will formulate a plan and communicate this to the entire community. When the time is right, we will find a way to honor our 8th Graders with our community present.
Thank you again to the parents, relatives, teachers, staff, and most importantly students who are making the best of this situation. We miss the students greatly and long for the time when we will all be together again. In the mean time, we will continue to pray and continue to focus on the things that we can control.
